We had a safe and successful election in Bali on July 9th, 2008. That was the first ever direct election of new governor in Bali, home of Kabonfootprint. On that election Made Mangku Pastika and AA Puspayoga won with an outstanding result. Last Thursday, August 28th, 2008 the official governor inauguration has been done. Now we have a new leader for the next 5 years.

All people in Bali are hoping for the best and bring Bali to the peace and better future. Safety and prosperity in all aspect is what we all want.

Bali new governor, I Made Mangku Pastika, stands between his deputy, AA Puspayoga on his right and a Hindu priest before being sworn into office at the Bali parliament. Pastika, a former Bali Police chief, has vowed to push up security around Bali and make improvements to people’s welfare during his 5 years leadership term.

The Mangku Pastika and Puspayoga won the election after outnumbered the other candidates Winasa, the regent of Jembrana Regency and Cok Budi Suryawan, the former regent of Gianyar regency. Mangku Pastika is not only popular in the national level but also in the international world.

Previously, Kabonfootprint know Mangku Pastika from when he was a police general deputy who was the chief investigator of Bali bombing October 2002. After completing his role as Balinese Police in Chief he was moved to Jakarta to be the chief of national anti drug association.

Many people have high hopes but there is always also a group of pessimistic who thinks negatively about the new leaders.  We all have to believe and support the concept of work made by Mangku Pastika, locally known as Bali Mandara which stands for Maju (proceed to advance level), Aman (secure), Damai (peace) and Sejahtera (prosperity).

All the best Bapak Made Mangku Pastika and Bapak Puspayoga. Please fulfill all your promises and good stories during your election campaign. Make Bali and Kabonfootprint proud…!

    Dear Mr. Made Mangku Pastika
    Gubernor of Bali

First of all let me express my sincerely congratulation to yuou for your election to lead Bali for the next five years. May God bless you and your partner Puspayoga, hope our Paradise island will always exist and Ajeg till the end.

However, I would like to remaind you that food security and sustainability in Bali will be the never ending challenges. We may find difficulties to totaly avoid the land convertion of 700-1000 ha every year while, we need more food to be produced to meet the increasing food demand in this provine. Nationally as well as internationally food security will amost always experiences shortage from supply side. Therefore, May I suggested some way outs such as: (1) family planning is a much to reduce population growth rate below 0.5%, (2) critically review all land use structure released by ech Districts and City, (3) more balance and bias toward farm households land use low and regulation for Bali, (4)provide wide opportunity to farmers in the Farmer’s Centered Agricultural Resource Management (FARM)with subsidized farm credit, (5) develop farm level added value through post harvest handling more diversifed products, (6) open access for farmers to source of credit and treat them fairly compared to other sectors, (7) develop more agro-tourism as source of off-farm income to strenghten the farm income, (8)consolidate farmers to develop corporate agribusines with member between 100-200 farmers through Subak management, (9)develop partnership with rish and profit sharing investors, and (10)technological support from many sources and rehabilitation of irrigation infrastrutures. I may call this as Dasa Bayu for Agricultural Development in Bali.
To close my sincerely concern to the future Bali Agriculture may I cite this following:

“May the oxen draw happily, the man labour happily, the flogh furrow happily, may the traces bind happily, wield the goad happily”
    -Reg Veda (R.IV.5.12.1-8).

“May the ploughmen plough round and round, happy with the prospect of happi crops….”
    -Yayur Veda (Y.189.13-20).
